Nathan's Britannia is as beautiful as ever, struck in 999.9 fine gold, now enhanced with four landmark features. In the lower left-hand of the design, below Britannia's flowing gown, is a trident to represent her naval history. As the viewer changes their perspective this trident becomes a padlock, emphasising the coin's secure nature.

When launched in 1987, the Britannia was produced in a 22 karat gold format, giving a gold content of 91.67%, or a fineness of 0.9167. Since 2013 the Britannia has been manufactured as a 99.99% pure gold bullion coin.
The Gold Britannia coin (1 oz) is legal tender in the UK and has a face value of £100, the largest face value on any UK coin. Additionally, The Royal Mint ultimately reports to the UK Treasury which stands over the coin’s authenticity. Around the scene in a circular inscription are the words “ONE OUNCE FINE GOLD BRITANNIA” and the year of issue.
The obverse face of the 2013 coin displays a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. In a circular inscription around the head are the words” ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.” and the face value of “100 POUNDS”.
